Virtual Lecture 1/20 Postponed until 2/24 at 10:00 AM TH 10:00 AM 11:30 AM Art Nouveau Cohen, Batia During the last decades of the 19th century the world was confronted with many changes. Inventions, new technological advancements, and transportation shifted the living spaces and life itself. Urban settings developed rapidly, and artists began to look into new ways of expression.

The sudden changes prompted the emergence of many artistic movements. Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Symbolism, Divisionism, Fauvism, Les Nabis, Primitivism, Expressionism, German Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Art are some of those styles.

Many, if not all, used the term “ism” at the end of the word to determine their style. Each week we will learn about each one of them: their forerunners, the most important artists of the movement or style and the general characteristics of each one of them.
